Birthday on Mull 2026

No photo can show the beauty and magic of Mull, but at least I have them to remind me of the wonderful week we’ve just had. Our holiday began on Friday 24th April when we stopped at Inveruglas at the top of Loch Lomond to eat a picnic lunch. Blue skies and sunshine were a wonderful start to the day.

We arrived at the lodge and unpacked, then sat down to enjoy the view from the windows. A herd of deer were grazing outside and we spotted a mountain hare. Taking photos through the windows was not ideal, but we didn’t want to scare them away.

The view from the lodge is stunning in every direction, here is Kerrera with Oban in the distance

And here is the lighthouse at Lismore.

On Saturday we drove over to Isle of Mull Cheese at Tobermory for lunch, calling in to see the boats at Salen on the way back

Later, when back at the lodge, we walked down to Grasspoint

My brother Nick and his wife Helen joined us on Sunday, so on Monday we drove over to Lochbuie and walked around Moy Castle

On Tuesday we travelled over the water to Ulva – and were thrilled to spot Ro outside Ulva House.

Back on Mull we drove over to Tobermory for a chippy tea

Wednesday was a quiet day at the lodge, looking at the wildlife and the views – here’s Ben Nevis in the distance

On Thursday N and I went over to Iona, though we refused to pay to go inside the Abbey

Then stopped at the Three Lochs viewpoint on the way back, spotting 5 eagles flying high in the sky – too small to photograph

Still, at least the sparrows and chaffinches at the lodge were easy to photograph

The time to come back home came all too soon, though at least the scenery on the way home is as lovely as the views on Mull

And, of course, we stopped at Inveruglas again on the way home to eat lunch
